The Tabby Colourpoint Cat Club may not be the biggest but it does get things done for its members ...

As many of you will know we have not been able to send a delegate to GCCF meetings for the last couple of years because we had less than 100 members. ( The minimum  requirement under GCCF rules)We considered this undemocratic, and have vigorously campaigned for a change in the GCCF rules to allow all affiliated clubs the right to send a delegate to meetings.

After much hard work by your committee it was agreed this week at the GCCF meeting to allow all  affiliated BREED CLUBS the right to be able to send a delegate to meetings. This is not exactly what we proposed as non breed clubs will still need to have a minimum of 100 members but it will enable us to send a delegate to meetings who will be able to represent the views of you, the members of the Tabby Colourpoint Cat Club.

Dear Miss Beeson,

Further to our telephone conversation of yesterday, I have re drafted our proposal. In essence, what we are proposing is to allow all clubs who have sufficient members to enable them to be affiliated to the GCCF  (50)  to also have the right to send a delegate to meetings.

Item 3 of the GCCF Constitution

 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Rule

3 MEMBERSHIP

The council shall consist of the delegates of affiliated Clubs and Societies (heinafter called “the Affiliated Clubs”) The National Cat Club shall be entitled to appoint FOUR delegates. All other clubs and societies shall be entitled to appoint one delegate for the first 100, one additional delegate for the second 100 members and a further additional delegate if its membership attains 500 or more. The right of an affiliated Club to appoint a delegate shall automatically cease if its membership as defined in article 4 falls to fewer than 100, the affiliation shall cease if its membership falls to lower than 50.  The Council shall grant representation to specialist breed Clubs which have been granted full representation on the relevant Breed Advisory Committee whos membership may be less than 100 for one year and shall grant representation to the following Clubs by virtue of their historical association whatever their membership shall be

.

4         The Red, Cream, Tortoiseshell and White, Blue Cream and Brown Tabby Society

PROPOSED CHANGE to read:-

3 MEMBERSHIP

The Council shall consist of the delegates of affiliated Clubs and Societies (hereinafter called “the Affiliated Clubs”) The National Cat Club shall be entitled to appoint FOUR delegates. All other Clubs and Societies shall be entitles to appoint one delegate provided they maintain a minimum of 50 members ( the minimum required for affiliation under Article 4)  an additional delegate if its membership exceeds 200 members and a further delegate if its membership attains 500 or more. The Council shall grant representation to the following clubs by virtue of their historical association whatever their membership shall be.

1         Black and White Cat Club

2         Blue Persian Cat Society

3         Chinchilla. Silver Tabby and Smoke Cat Club

4         The Red, Cream, Tortoiseshell and White, Blue Cream and Brown Tabby Society

5         Short-hair Cat Society (of Great Britain and Manx Club inc)

6         Abyssinian Cat Club

7         Siamese Cat Club

      --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It is the opinion of the Tabby Colourpoint Cat Club, that not to allow an affiliated club to have a delegate to represent them at council meetings in undemocratic and unconstitutional.  All affiliated clubs have to pay their fees to the GCCF so should have equal representation, hence the proposed change to Rule 3.

Yours sincerely.

Ray Jones.
